Zeta Chi in the Community

STAR Award

At the 68th Boule in New Orleans, LA the Zeta Chi Chapter was recognized with the STAR Award, a National Chapter Service Award given by the Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated. This is the highest chapter award in the organization which confirms a chapter's commitment to implementing activities that promotes the Sorority's motto "Service for Humanity." Initiatives are outcome focused on Disease Prevention & Health Promotion; Leadership Development; Educational Scholarships; Recruitment and Retention; Programs for Boys and Girls; Programs for the Elderly; Community Health Outreach and Partnerships.

Disease Prevention & Health Promotion

Disease Prevention and Health Promotion focuses on high risk groups, vulnerable and underserved populations. Zeta Chi meets this initiative by participating in health screenings and health education. Locally Zeta Chi has participated in community health fairs and education events as speakers and screeners.

Leadership Development

Zeta Chi participates leadership development on the local, regional and national level. Members serve on all levels of the organization. Zeta Chi members attend chapter level and regional leadership trainings in the Fall of every year. Leadership development is extended through the local mentoring program with undergraduate members and new members.

Educational Scholarships

Zeta Chi chapter in partnership with the Zeta Chi Education Fund to provide financial support to nursing students in the Houston Area.

Recruitment and Retention

Zeta Chi participates in local career fairs and mentoring activities to promote the nursing profession.

Programs for Youth and Young Adults

Zeta Chi has received grants that fund programs to discuss childhood obesity. In addition, members have hosted youth safety seminars.

Programs for the Elderly

Every year Zeta Chi supports local seniors during the holidays with gift cards for food and essentials

Community Health Outreach

Throughout the year Zeta Chi hosts and collaborates with local partners to host education on various health topics including.

Partnerships

Zeta Chi has partnered with MD Anderson to host webinars on cancer and cancer research. The chapter has also partnered with many community organizations to include local chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Veteran Affairs, Star of Hope and UpLIFT Her Women's Wellness. Zeta Chi also supports national partners, March of Dimes, St. Jude and Kidney Fund.
